Laura Irasuegi Otal

Laura Irasuegi Otal was born in Eibar, Gipuzkoa, in 1923.  (…)

She was one of the Basque children (Children of Russia) who were evacuated during the Spanish Civil War to Russia. She survived the Siege of Leningrad and studied civil engineering in Moscow before returning to Spain.

In 1977 there were only two women working as civil engineers in Spain, Laura Irasuegui and Alicia Sánchez Urquijo.

Laura Irasuegi died in Errenteria, Gipuzkoa, Basque Country, on 6 October 2016, age 92.
